I know many of you have lots of questions regarding the recent school closure. I assure you, school administrators are and will continue to be in close contact with state and local officials to make decisions that have our students’ best interest in mind. This is uncharted territory and one none of us ever expected to experience. With that in mind, I wanted to take the opportunity to share with you the plan in place for elementary students during our time away from school, however long it may be. We will continue to keep you posted as the situation develops.
Teachers and staff worked Monday to plan and prepare materials for students.
Starting next week, teachers will be sharing assignments using a mixture of online resources and paper packets. Packets will be mailed out each Friday for the following week.
To make sure students have the best opportunity possible, we will also be utilizing some online apps and websites to provide models and instruction for students. We are asking families to allow students to use your personal devices at home for schoolwork. We know that not all families have access to the internet or have devices that work. In that case, we have a limited number of iPads available for checkout from the school. We ask that only families without personal devices check them out. We will also need to rely on our families to monitor students online to make sure that students are being safe.
Teachers will also be utilizing their class communication tools (SeeSaw and Facebook) to share class messages and reminders about assignments with parents and students. Please check them often for updates. Two-way communication is going to be vitally important moving forward. Please make sure we have your current mailing address, email address, and phone number on file in the office. And please reach out to teachers if you have questions about assignments. They are available to help.
We know we have many family activities scheduled for the spring. Until further notice, school activities, practices, and After School Club will be canceled during the school closure. I will keep you posted as this changes.
The school will be providing free meals to children ages 1-18 during the school closure starting tomorrow, March 17th. There will be a google form coming out so we know how many meals to prepare.
Again, I appreciate your patience and flexibility during this difficult time. I assure you, we will continue to do our best to support you and your family. If you have any questions, please let me know. The best way to contact me is through email - firstname.lastname@example.org. I will continue to update everyone as information becomes available.
