My name is Lisa Boucher and I am the School Counselor for Wood River Rural MS/HS. I graduated from Wood River Rural HS 1986. I am the youngest of two girls. My sister Lois is also in education/coaching. I was raised on a farm between Wood River and Cairo where my parents still live. My dad has farmed all of his life and my mom helped out on the farm and worked at the Hall County FSA office for many years.
I attended elementary school at District 14, one of the many Class I Districts in Hall County at the time. It was quite a transition moving from District 14 with a K-6 enrollment of 6 students into a Class B Jr/Sr. high school. Thankfully having caring teachers/coaches and meeting new friends made it a terrific experience.
After high school I attended and graduated from Kearney State College. I started my teaching career at Wilber-Clatonia Public Schools teaching high school Biology and Chemistry. I was blessed with amazing mentors and faculty during my first years of teaching and coaching. Aub and I met during our years at KSC and we were married after my first year of teaching. This past year we celebrated our 27th year of marriage all of which have been shared in education and coaching with more hours spent together at the school and gym than at home!
We moved back to central Nebraska a year after we were married where I taught and coached at Ansley Public Schools and Aub at Maxwell/Brady Public Schools. After one year of living apart we decided that was enough, so I moved west. I continued to teach science and coach basketball and/or volleyball for 15 years at Curtis/MV, North Platte High and Maxwell Public Schools, during which time I had returned to school to obtain my Master’s degree in School Counseling. I took my first counseling job at Adams Middle School in North Platte and then moved to Maxwell as the K-12 Counselor for several years before our move back to Wood River 3 years ago.
Aub and I are blessed to have two daughters. Brook, our oldest, was recently married to Tannor Mroczek and is in her third year of Dental School at UNMC. Boston, our youngest, is currently a junior at WR and enjoys many athletic and school activities year round.
As I look at my career so far I always feel like we had the BEST teachers and coaches at Wood River during my time in school here. Mr. Hawley, Mrs. Redwine, Mrs. Kistler, Mr. Jack, Mr. Smidt, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac, Mr. Jackson, Mrs. Olson, Mrs. Gifford, Mrs. Fernau and I know I’m forgetting some….. Then I look at all of the students that became educators from those classes during my time at school. Wow, what an impact they had on so many of us. We can only hope to make a similar impact in the lives of the students that we teach. Proud to be an Eagle - Again!
