All About Me:
My Story by Lori Peters
I was born in Grand Island, NE and was raised on a farm north of GI. My dad was a farmer and milked cows and grew corn, wheat, alfalfa and even raised hereford cattle when I was young. My mom was a nurse at the Lutheran Hospital in GI in her earlier years and when my siblings and I were in middle school she began working as a CNA for 20 years at the Grand Island Veterans Home. I am the oldest of the family and have a sister and a brother. I attended District 1-R school (K-8) grade and then graduated from Northwest High School class of 1989. It was then that I was offered a scholarship and opportunity to play basketball at York College and graduated with an Associates Degree and then went on to play 2 more years at Kansas Newman University in Wichita, KS where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education in 1993.
After deciding to move back to Nebraska I met my husband Steve. He being an alumni of Wood River and farmed/and drove truck, is where we would begin our lives together. We were
married in November 1996 and I continued to substitute teach in the Grand Island Public
Schools and also worked at the GI Independent before starting a family. We have four
wonderful children, MaKenzie graduated in 2018 from Wood River High and is a sophomore at Hastings College where she competes on the Track and Field team and is studying to be a
nurse. Our second oldest, Kaden is a senior and will graduated from Wood River in May and
then in the fall will attend Concordia University where he will study Agriculture Science and play on the Bulldog Football Team. Kevan our third child, is a sophomore at Wood River High and is involved in FB, BB, Track and FFA and like his brother, loves to farm! Our youngest Macie is currently an 8th grader at Wood River Middle School and is involved in many sports and activities as well and will begin HS in the fall.
When our youngest was 1 ½ years old, I was approached by Mr. Roth at parent/teacher
conferences if I would be interested in substitute teaching as in a conversation he found out I
had my education degree. I then began subbing at Wood River for about 8 years and then
decided to get my Masters in Education/Literacy from Concordia University. I then applied for
the 6th grade opening 5 years ago and was offered the teaching position. I am blessed to have been given the opportunity to teach 6th grade English and 6/7 Reading classes along with coaching JHVB and being an assistant GBB coach which I truly love!! Wood River Rural School District and the community of Wood River is a very special place and my family and I are truly grateful and thankful to be Wood River Eagles!
