Hello!

My name is Brenda Hirchert and I am the Middle School/High School Media and Tech
Integration Specialist. I have been teaching at Wood River for 13 years.

I grew up in Grand Island and attended Northwest High School. After graduating High School, I attended Kearney State College and majored in Elementary and Early Childhood Education.
While at Kearney State I met my husband Scott Hirchert. Scott and I got married right before
our Senior year of college. I graduated in May of 1991.

In May of 1991 Scott was offered a job at Gibbon High School so we moved there soon after
graduating. We lived in Gibbon, but I commuted to Kearney to teach preschool each day. We
lived in Gibbon for 14 years. During that time I taught at a couple of preschools and then
became the director of a day care/preschool which had over 200 children and 35 employees.
Scott and I also started our family during our time in Gibbon.

Our daughter Carly was born in 1996 and son Andrew was born in 2000. In 2001 I accepted a
position at Kenesaw Public Schools teaching First Grade and helping coach volleyball. I loved
working with the younger students and also coaching volleyball. While at Kenesaw I began my Masters program in Media with an emphasis in Technology. I completed my Masters in
December of 2006 and started looking for a job in a school library somewhere.

I applied for the Library/Media position at Wood River Elementary in the spring of 2007 and did not get that job at the time, but about a week later I got a call from the Middle/High school and was offered the position I have today. I feel truly blessed that Mr. Moore called me that day as my career took me to a position I never imagined I would have let alone love so much.
This past year my family had many celebrations as our son Andrew graduated from GISH High School in May and enlisted in the Army and our Daughter Carly graduated from UNL in May and is the Assistant Athletic Trainer and a teacher at GISH.

Teaching has always been my passion and I knew from an early age I was meant to do it.
There is no other place I would rather be than with the staff and students here at Wood River.
We have an amazing staff that have the best interest of students in mind and would do anything to help a student be successful. And in case you didn’t notice…. Wood River Rural Schools has it goin on!

WE ARE WOOD RIVER!!
