Wood River Families,
I hope you stayed warm during what was likely the coldest part of our year this past weekend. Here are some updates on our district goals:
We aim to achieve 90% of our students reaching proficiency in reading by the end of this school year. We are currently at 78% with our high school students currently testing to dipstick where we are at this winter. What can you do as parents? Read and/or encourage reading with your student attend school every day. Everyday matters!
At the high school, over 90% of our students participate in at least one activity, and nearly 70% are involved in two or more. Students who join activities tend to do better academically and learn valuable skills like hard work, perseverance, and time management.
Our teachers have been refining our curriculum and identifying key academic essentials to better prepare students for success. They’ve received expert training both during the school year and over the summer. This important work will have long-term positive effects for our students.
Eagles Soaring High:
Kendall Renau earned 3rd place at the Hall County Spelling Bee hosted at our high school theater this last week.
The Lady Eagles earned the LouPlatte Conference Tournament Championship at Ravenna on Saturday!
Congratulations to Mr. Schlueter for winning the staff soup contest on Friday—special thanks to his wife for the winning recipe!
January 25th-31st is School Board Appreciation Week. We appreciate our dedicated school board members for their commitment and service to our students and staff. Their role in balancing the needs of both students and taxpayers is not easy, and appreciate for their efforts. Thank you to Tyler Doane, Dylan Gill, Craig Huxtable, Jodi Rauert, Nick Renau, and Crystal Stutzman.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead! I always value your feedback; please feel free to reach out at tzessin@wrrsd.org.
We ARE Wood River.
