Hello Wood River School Families,

I hope you enjoyed Super Bowl Sunday, whether you watched the game, enjoyed some snacks, or had fun with the commercials. As part of our mission to Always Reach for Excellence, our teachers need dedicated time to collaborate, analyze the curriculum, and ensure it is focused and aligned across grade levels. They also need time to review assessments. There is currently no time for this during the day, and arranging schedules is nearly impossible.

In light of this, our calendar collaboration committee is seeking your feedback on a proposal for weekly early dismissals at 2:30 PM on Wednesdays. Wednesdays are ideal days, since there are no activities, and coaches and sponsors could take part. Providing this time will help our students succeed in the classroom. To minimize disruption to family schedules, we plan to keep bus route times the same. Parents would have the option to pick up their students at 2:30, or elementary students could stay for the After School Program until either 3:15 or 5:30. Middle and high school students would be dismissed at 2:30 unless they are riding the bus. Additionally, middle and high school students may volunteer to help with the elementary after-school program earning community service hours. Sports practices would start at the normal time. Currently, we plan to continue the middle/high school early release on Fridays in addition to this proposal.

If the idea is suitable, we would like to pilot this schedule during the 4th quarter to work out any kinks. We would appreciate it if you could complete the form by the end of the week to share your feedback.

Thank you so much,
