Wood River Families,
We have many exciting things happening in Wood River Rural Schools despite this lull in weekly activities. Unless you're a Husker basketball fan, then it’s been equally exciting; what a game!
Here are a few highlights and celebrations from around our district: The school board recently adopted the framework for the portrait of a graduate. The portrait of a graduate includes the vision: Work Hard, Open Doors, Build Community, and Lead the Way. It’s exciting because the framework slightly raises expectations, but more importantly, it encourages those students who want to excel to do so.
The board also approved the 2026-2027 District Calendar with 6 additional early 1:00 dismissal days. Following parent and staff feedback, 6 early dismissal days were added to allow staff to collaborate and align curriculum across grades, with a greater focus on student learning. The early dismissals are the first Wednesday of October, November, December, March, April, and May. Please see the link to the calendar (here).
Eagles Soaring High
Lacie Frear, Rylee Codner, Everett Miller, Karson Wagoner, Christy Burnett, and Kiley Codner for presenting at the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association Spring Conference. They represented our school district by discussing their success and challenges of hosting The Island Showdown last fall.
Brenda Hirchert for creating a fun AR celebration, Ready, Set, Glow, for our elementary student readers.
Congratulations to Elizabeth Green for earning her way to Kearney for the NSAA state speech contest in humorous prose!
Legendary wrestling coach, Coach Waddington, for being selected to be inducted into the Nebraska High School Wrestling Hall of Fame.
LouPlatte Conference Art contest contestants, Kenna Thompson for earning 1st in watercolor, and Rylee Codner for earning 1st in multimedia. Many other students also placed thanks to Mrs. Pietrzak’s dedication to her students.
