Wood River Families,

We are already in the month of October, and this week marks the end of our first quarter. It is amazing how quickly the school year is moving!

Learning Together: PLCs
This Wednesday is our first early dismissal to allow our staff time to continue our work toward implementing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).

PLCs are built around four important questions:

  • What do we want our students to know and be able to do?

  • How do we know if they learned it?

  • What do we do if they didn't learn it?

  • What do we do if they already know it?

We believe this is important work that will help us continue to improve learning for our students. We appreciate your support and your willingness to adjust your schedules to make this professional learning time possible.

Proud to Be an Eagle
The Wood River band sounded and looked great as they marched in the Harvest of Harmony parade this week. They definitely made the Wood River community proud!

Thank You, PTO!
A big thank-you to our PTO for hosting the food trucks at the Community Center last night. It was a great way to support our elementary school while celebrating Husker volleyball and football wins. And, of course, the food was delicious!

Recognizing a Wood River Coaching Legacy
I would be remiss if I didn't recognize Darren Parlin and his 33 years of coaching basketball at Wood River. Darren has invested countless hours in our basketball programs and, more importantly, in the student-athletes he has coached over the years. We are fortunate to have someone who has given so much time and dedication to our students and our district.

While Darren won't be coaching a basketball program this year, his impact on Wood River basketball and our student-athletes will continue to be felt. Thank you, Darren, for 33 years of commitment to our Eagles!

As an update to the varsity boys basketball program, Scott Hirchert will serve as head coach, with Phil Smith assisting him this season. We also want to thank Josh Nuss for his time and effort with the boys basketball program. This change will allow Josh more time with his family, and we appreciate everything he has contributed to our student-athletes.

Appreciating Our Custodial Staff
We have great facilities at Wood River, and we are fortunate to have a custodial staff that works hard every day to keep them clean, safe, and welcoming for our students and community.

If you get the chance, please take a moment to let them know how much we appreciate their work.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me personally at tzessin@wrrsd.org.
