Dear Wood River Families,

This is an exciting week for Wood River! Fourteen of our FFA members are traveling to the National Convention in Indianapolis—an incredible opportunity for our students. In athletics, congratulations to Yanathan Perez, who won our district cross country meet and will be competing at State in Kearney on Friday.

As we wrap up the first quarter, I also want to remind you that parent-teacher conferences will be held on Monday and Tuesday. Please remember there is no school on Friday due to fall break.

This past week, we held our monthly safety meeting with staff from all of our elementary, middle, and high schools, including the following representatives: Nick Lammers from Wood River Fire and Rescue, Deputy Donovan Fowler from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, and Jon Rosenlund from the Hall County Emergency Center. One important topic we discussed was "swatting"—malicious hoax calls reporting false emergencies like active shooters or bomb threats in order to prompt a large emergency response. These incidents can cause unnecessary disruption and fear, and unfortunately, they have occurred in our area. We are working to ensure all staff, especially our front office team, are prepared to respond appropriately if these situations arise.

We continue to review safety procedures and work closely with local law enforcement to keep our schools secure.

  • If you or your child ever becomes aware of a safety concern, please use the Safe2Help anonymous reporting system at https://safe2helpne.com/.

  • We also encourage families to stay informed by checking the local sex offender registry. (click here)

  • If one of our schools enters a SECURE or LOCKDOWN status, we will follow our standard response protocols and lock all doors to outside visitors. We will keep families informed through our messaging system as soon as it is safe to do so.

The safety and security of our students and staff are always our top priorities. If you have any questions or concerns about school safety, please reach out to me directly at tzessin@wrrsd.org
