Wood River School Families,

Happy November! I hope you got your share of Halloween candy this past week, and that you remembered that daylight saving time ended and you fell asleep before the end of the Husker football game.  As we settle into November and look ahead to the holiday, I’m reminded how important it is to support one another as a school community.

I recently met with area superintendents and heard from Karen Rathke and Karly Behrendt about the Heartland United Way and the programs they offer for Hall, Hamilton, Howard, and Merrick County residents when life gets tough. Life gets tough for all of us, but sometimes we get in a really tough spot and we need support.  This is where these programs are there to get us through those tough times. I will mention just a few, but if you don’t know who to call, it's just fine to call the Heartland United Way directly; they will care, support you, and help you get where you need to be.  Sometimes you need someone at night or on the weekend; you can call (211) for 24/7 access to programs.

They can help with almost anything. I will mention a few. If you need support with food, housing, or utilities; health resources; addiction resources; veterans; seniors; citizenship; education and literacy; financial help; or holiday assistance. Here is a link to resources (link to resources)

Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to the school or the Heartland United Way for any support you may need. We know that our students learn best when they and their families have their basic needs met.

Important date change for middle and high school:
— School will be in session on February 17.
— There will be no school on March 17, as we are hosting the conference speech meet.
