From Brenda Hirchert about Student Council update: School Student Council is joining forces with The High School Lighthouse team to become one group this year. We are excited to combine the two leadership groups into one. This Lighthouse Team will be comprised of students in grades 6 - 12 and will meet at least once a month if not more.
The primary goal of the group will be to give students a voice in three areas; School Academics, School Culture, and School Leadership. The students are looking forward to being able to make a difference in Wood River Rural Schools through being involved in our group and school.
They will meet and form committees within the 3 areas of Academics, Culture, and Leadership. From those committees the students will create action plans on how to make improvements within our school and community. Each committee will be responsible for taking action on their goal and working with others to meet that goal. Once a goal is met, another will be made. They will continue to work together throughout the year in creating a school culture that is student led.
About Me - Joyce Willoughby
Like most moms, I wear many different hats everyday. I’m a wife, mother, daughter, christian, assistant to Farmer John, bookkeeper, cook, driver, school board member and the list continues. And I would not change one thing in my past, because I love life.
I was born and raised in Wood River. I grew up on a farm and today my husband John and I raise corn, seed corn, soybeans and milo. We have 4 daughters who have & will graduate from Wood River as I did in the 80’s. And yes, I wore bell bottom jeans and danced to Micheal Jackson’s “Thriller” album.
My daughter, Megan is a 2nd grade teacher at Wood River Elementary, Amber works in the emergency room as a nurse in Omaha, Taylor is an oncology nurse in Kearney and Johnna is a senior at Wood River. My husband, John grew up in a town in Custer County called Mason City and graduated from the University of NE at Lincoln. I also graduated from UNL with a Business Administration- finance degree. I married in 1986 and lived in Lincoln until 1992 and then moved back to Wood River to take over the family farm. Best decision that John & I ever made was to move back to the farm to raise our kids.
Being in a small town, means that no matter what life throws at you, you have family, friends & neighbors who always look out for you. That is why I try to give back to Wood River by volunteer at church, community and school. I’m on the Wood River Board of Education going on 17 years, a member of the Wood River Methodist Church and Booster club member.
Life is fun and I hope you get to wear many hats in your life someday too.
